Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It is important to me that you have spent the time to look at this.
We are all on life journeys and none of us know where this may take us. I think having known weston hospicecare were there for me in 2013 made me feel safer and not needing them made me feel grateful that I got through my treatment and on out the other side. I know so many people they have been there for the person in need and theri families and friends and how vital that has been. I wnat to help make sure that help is there for you or me should we ever need it.
The day after I had my first biopsy I went on my first cylesportive with Balckrat from Backwell School. I really enjoyed this challenge and yet somehow knew the road ahead was going to be tricky even though I had no results by then I kind of knew that it was going to say Cancer so I rode and enjoyed
Part of my journey was about keeping myself going and motivated. I started running and got myself a lovely road bike to start road riding. I was not going to let Cancer keep me in bed or cut off from life that I love. Bert my road bike let me ride up and down over the mendips feeling part of life the environment and beauty of Somerset.
I realised how lucky I was to be out seeing this and thought about those who were stuck inside with their cancer treatmenst and families who were supporting them. I know that there is a lot of love an dcare in the westom Hospice care who looks after so many local people.
Once starting my treatment Ann at the gym asked me to do the Christmas Cracker with her this was the first run I had ever done and was 2 days after a chemo treatment it was an amazing experience and fun all dressed up too!
My treat for myself to myself in my chemo was to buy myself a nice Scott Road bike called Bert, I went to Epic and got fitted for my bike and have so enjoyed riding him.
I have helped the hospicecare fundraiser Olly by trying to give GPS routes for Strawberry Jam annual fundraising rides it was on one of these that i met a badger and got thrown off my old bike and rode on completly to home where Nik said what have you done covered in blood went to a and e and yes a broken clavicle which was trying to mend itself but due to the gap in the break and the radiotherapy damage to my bone it did not fix on its own so was plated this May with a hip graft now we are getting good bone and healing the plate is a scaffolding on which my good bone can grow!
Last year I did some of my mendip riding routes to share with the Strawberry Jam riders.
I realised through my treatment and recovery how I could stay in touch with all around me by running and cycling and feel alive well and free. So having now been offered a place in Ride London 100 whcih covers some parts of the London 2012 cycling course and Tour of England Box hill in Surry I am excited about having a go at this and trying a new route and way and being part of such a big event representing and cycling for people and their families who need Weston Hospice care's support. http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/
Currently I have no idea how I am going to raise the money for the hospice we have to raise £600 I would like to aim for £6 a mile! ( at least)
I guess I will start with card and cake sales at work and if friends or family need cakes cards or gardening done I will do this for my fund raising and see where we go.... any ideas? all welcome....
also I may donate my money from any GCSE maths and science tutoring
February 3rd those gym members who took part in gym challenge to see how far the gym bikes could go in a 9-5 day made up a cumulative distance of 551k with people contributing 0.5 k up to 26.4 miles (x1.6 for k) every k counted and added up towards motivation for my London prudential ride on august10th 2014 and raised £40 so at £6 a mile for London that is 6 2/3 mile towards my challenge.
