My Story                                                                                                  

Thank you for giving time to visit my Just Giving Page. My Nan and my Uncle had dementia and my lovely Dad has been living with Alzheimer’s for several years.  What a very cruel disease.  Not only does the disease strip a person of the life that they know it also effects those nearest to them in every way. My Mum has been caring for my Dad at home for a long time, but he has recently moved to a care home.

 The Charity                                                                                                      

I am raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK. This charity is dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and cure. Without effective treatments, one in three children born today will die with dementia. Today, there are no dementia survivors but research can change this.                                                                                            

The Challenges                                                                                             

I will be taking part in 2 challenges. The first will be 'The Yorkshire 3 Peaks' in May. Along with my very good friend Lisa Williams, we aim to reach the summit of 3 mountains in 1 day.

The second event is a real life long goal of mine. Through Dream Challenges I will be going to Borneo to complete a Trek across rugged, steep and slippery terrain. This will be tough with long daily treks and sleeping under the stars at times. I will then be visiting the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. This sanctuary, founded in 1964 spans 43 square kilometres of protected forest land, minimising deforestation and giving a safe home to orphaned orangutans and other animals.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat. For my 50th birthday last year I was lucky enough to be given some money for a holiday from my lovely husband. This money is paying for my trip, we will also be making a donation to the centre.
