Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I shall be taking part in the Alton Towers Half Marathon on 14th November 2021
As many people that know me, know i am now a happily married woman and a mommy. Life for me has not always been this good.
I spent 5 years of my life living in fear, with a man i thought i loved and i thought loved me.
1 in 4 women are killed by domestic violence by the person the trusted the most. This needs to STOP!!! Im a lucky one that got away.
Things were not bad at the start, but a few months down the line the name calling began, the brow beating and the humiliation. I was told i was fa, ugly and that no-one would want me. I isolated myself from my friends and family, and that's when things got physical. It started with a push, which then turned to a slap then to a punch, followed by full blown attacks, to which my own family did not recognise me. I even had cigarettes put out on my face.
I attempted to leave a few times, but there was nowhere for me to go. All of the refuges were full and there was no housing available to me so i had no choice but to return to my abuser. I can almost hear ladies everywhere screaming I would of left when it started!!! and if you would have asked me before this happened i would have said the same, only its a pattern that cannot be explained until you have been there.
It got to a point when i would be punched in the face and not even flinch, i was emotionally empty.
I finally got the strength to get away and have slowly rebuilt my life away from my abuser and I'm not afraid anymore. I can't help but feel that if there had been more support for me then i would have left years before and not lost a huge part of my life.
The sad part is, this is growing more frequently with teenagers suffering domestic violence. I would like to help raise funds and awareness for a cause that i feel needs a voice.
