Story
Well ... a crazy idea was suggested to me a couple of months ago and to be fair in the beginning it was the furthest thing from anything I have ever imagined doing! It rattled around in my head and couldn't be shaken out! After having a mother-daughter discussion (as obviously this is not your usual holiday!), and it had to be funded somehow, we agreed that if I actually wanted to take on this crazy idea my lovely mum would support and help me take on this challenge. So now all is booked and the training is in full swing, with numerous spinning classes (to which I have developed a slight addiction!) and gym sessions. I am preparing for the “off” with the trek starting on 02 January and lasting for 12 days and, in addition, it would seem silly not to try and raise a little bit of money for my selected charity, Walking With The Wounded. After watching these inspirational individuals in the documented television programme, showing the extremities faced when trekking to the North Pole and reading up on the charity, it is undeniably an extremely worthy cause. The next venture for the charity in 2012 is an expedition to Everest and to successfully summit Mount Everest and put 4 wounded servicemen on top of the world in order to raise over £2m to re-train and re-skill wounded servicemen and women from the British Armed Forces. So if you can, please help me in helping to donate to this worthy charity. Incidentally, I am able-bodied and I am only trekking as far as Base Camp but know this will be the hardest challenge I have ever undertaken.
