In September 2020, Rachel and Nikki will take on a challenging, once in a lifetime experience, hiking for five days along the Great Wall of China while raising awareness and funds for Cancer Research. We will be testing our endurance tackling thousands of steps each day and will ‘lend a hand’ placing a brick to repair a newly restored section of the Wall, ensuring our own place in the Great Wall of China! 

Statistics state that 1 in 2 people will develop cancer in their lifetime. Earlier this year Nikki’s mum was diagnosed with lymphoepithelial carcinoma, an extremely rare salivary gland cancer. After 21 biopsies and a 5.5 hour operation, Nikki’s mum is thankfully in remission but currently dealing with some debilitating repercussions. Nikki is trekking for her mum but has also had close family members who have lost their lives to this horrendous disease. 

Rachel has immediate family and close friends that have also suffered from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. Early detection tests and treatment that were made possible due to charities such as Cancer Research UK have also been hugely important to Rachel. Rachel is trekking for those closest to her.

Your donations will help boost the urgent need to bolster public health and NHS cancer services so they can cope with the looming demands for better diagnostics, treatments, and earlier diagnosis and we can’t thank you enough.
