Story
Right third just giving page here, I know what you're thinking when will this girl stop ... Im so grateful you're even here reading this. The answer to will I stop is obviously yes, there will come a time when my fundraising days will end (I actually think you will miss me when that time comes - haha!!) I'm not sure when that will be but for now, fundraising is important not just for finding a cure for people like Alannah but it has become my way of coping with my mums death and has given me a purpose, without all this to focus on I'd have been a mess. Life is just so hard and your support means the world to me.
Most of you reading this know my story, but I wanted to write something to explain why carrying on fundraising is so important to me and thought I would go right back to the beginning,
My mum was diagnosed in her 30s and Alannah was formally diagnosed at the age of 14 year, however mum knew she had it for some time before so it didn't come as a shock to the family.
Growing up when I told people my mum and Alannah had the condition, I always said they had a ‘good type’ I don’t think that was through ignorance but when I thought of Muscular dystrophy I thought of people in wheelchairs and read stories about Duchene so seeing how well my mum and Alannah coped with things gave me the impression everything was ok – It makes me smile when I think back about mum portraying it to us like that but also makes me feel a tiny bit of guilt that she probably went through so much on her own. Alannah Definitely gets her strength from our mum.
As I got older mum struggled more with steps and standing up off the floor, getting out of bed etc, Again she laughed it off with us and she just had her ways around these things so it was the normal to us – again something I admire her so much for now looking back.
If my mum was here now I know she would want me to do this for Lana ... she wanted nothing more than a cure for her and she would be saying don't worry about what people say Nikita just do it if you want to!!
My mum was the most amazing mum I know and I miss her so much, there are so many things she is missing out on and each day is still so hard without her.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and everyone of you for your support, if you are still reading you deserve a thank you just for that but honestly it means more than you think.
Every donation no matter how small is greatly received by myself and the charity, If you cannot donate right now that's alright but please just offer some supportive words instead, negativity sticks and I really wish I wasn't here fundraising in memory of my mum but unfortunately I cant change that I can only try and remain positive, putting all my energy into this.
I am running the GNR again in 2021 but this time not alone ...
These amazing friends and family are running too (each with their own fundraising page which I will share on my fb every now and again)
