Story
Hi!
Thanks for looking at my sponsorship page. My name's Matt and I'm obsessed with bicycles. I'm also a bit weird, but only insofar as I want to ride for 75 miles, off-road, in the pitch black, through the night, along the South Downs Way on my bike.
As this isn't your usual Saturday night out, I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise money for and increase awareness about Cystic Fibrosis, which affects both my niece and nephew as well as my colleague’s daughter.
Over 8,000 people in the UK have CF, and 1 in 25 people carry the gene that causes it. Its main impact is on the lungs and the digestive system, which become clogged up with sticky mucus, making it hard for the person affected to breathe and digest food. It has to be controlled by taking a cocktail of drugs and enzymes and having regular physiotherapy. It also means that life expectancy is reduced to around 30 years of age.
However, recent developments mean that people with CF could live for longer, and with your help we can support the research needed to improve on this still further. More details can be found on the Cystic Fibrosis trust website here
Not only is the ride a massive challenge in itself, it's also a huge personal challenge as I've never done anything like this before. It's 75 miles of off-road cycling, riding up and down some huge hills on chalky trails that are very, very slippery when things get wet (which I'm sure they will). Not only that, it's at night! More details can be found here
The money we raise will go to supporting a great charity that can make a real difference in someone’s life. Many thanks for your support.
Matt
