Hello my supporters. We (Josh and I) did the run last Sunday and despite a 45 mph head wind on the final 2 miles, we loved it - great atmosphere and course, but then I love Portsmouth because I spent so much time there when I was in the Royal Navy. Josh managed a little over 75 minutes and I did a little over 89 minutes. We have, as you can see, raised well over £1000 for Parkinson's Disease research and support, so very many thanks to you all.
Background
I have a friend called Mike. He was very fit - he ran the London Marathon a couple of times and, even more impressively, ran many mountain marathons. He loved walking in the hills and mountains and I occasionally went on such walks with him. About 15 years ago we were in Snowdonia and I noticed that he wasn't out the front as he usually was - he was slower and I saw him stumble a few times. Shortly after that, Mike was diagnosed with PD.
Over the last 15 years I have watched this progressive disease degenerate Mike's life to a level where walking from the front door to the car is a formidable task and walking in the hills a distant memory. PD attracts far less research funding than more common diseases There is a real chance of breakthrough, but money is needed badly. Which is why I am going to drag myself around 10 miles to raise money for PD.
For UK taxpayers the government will donate 25p for every £1 you donate, and I will donate 50p for every £ that you donate.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thanks very much for supporting me and Parkinson's UK.
