Story
Last month I spent time in Uganda. It was my 6th trip there in 5 years. Since then I have grown to love the country and made many new friends. The purpose of my trip was to visit a school and community project at a village called Nyapeya in the North of the country funded through the generosity of friends and parishioners of St. Patrick's Church Drumbeg in partnership with the Diocese of Northern Uganda and co-ordinated and facilitated by Fields of Life. Sadly due to the worldwide Coronavirus crisis not only is the school at Nyapeya closed but the entire country is in lockdown. Our own period of quarantine is testing for all of us but for most people in Uganda the consequences are horrendous. Self isolation in closely knit communities is almost impossible and frequent handwashing a major challenge when fresh running water is a scarce commodity. Hunger and indeed starvation is looming for many people.Food prices are rocketing and people just cannot afford to eat. Fields of Life are rising to the challenge and seeking to raise emergency funds. This will be used for health education and provision of food to the most needy. Please support their efforts and mine to fund raise on their behalf. As a younger man I made the marathon journey 19 times. I never thought I would do it again. These however are extraordinary times and I believe an extraordinary effort is required from us all. I will commence by challenge by cycling 26.2 miles very close to my home and then move to the difficult bit.. 26.2 miles in my own garden. The world record is safe... I anticipate this will be a long and very slow if not painful journey...!!!
