Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2010 · 24 May 2010
In May 2010, 300 of us are setting off to ride the key battelfields of Northern France in aid of HELP FOR HEROES, a charity which provides support to our wounded servicemen and women – who deserve every support we can offer. Within the group will be teams from our Allies of today as well as our own from Headley Court.
The ride will be a challenge. We will be riding some 375 miles over 5 and a bit days (yes - an average of 70 miles a day) from le Havre through Dieppe, Amiens, Arras, Ypres to Dunkirk visiting some of the famous battles of both the First and Second World Wars. Along the way we we will be attending memorial services and learning more about the daily lives and battles of our soldiers, sailors and airmen who gave their lives in the World Wars as well as those who are today fighting and being seriously injured and killed in Afghanistan.
All who know me well are aware of my normal “healthy lifestyle” – mostly revolving around a love of food, beer, wine and the odd cigarette or two! Exercise is not high on my agenda and having done a similar ride last year I know that I will need to be very fit - and many hours will be required "in the saddle" training to ease the pain on the ride itself. One thing is certain though, I am up for this challenge and I will be starting the ride with 2 legs, 2 arms and a pair of eyes - unlike a number of my fellow riders.Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.
Thank you for your support.
