Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am a veteran of the 1st Battalion the Light Infantry, having served 6 years and 6 years reserve, operating in UK mainland, Northern Ireland, Berlin and BAOR among others. I have witnessed the scars of battle both personally as well as that of my former comrades, some of which were killed, maimed and badly scarred both physically and mentally. Following last years attempt at this mammoth challenge and completing in 21 hrs 35 minutes (total walking time) I have yet again set myself the challenge to complete this in less time in order to remember those of which I have had the proudest pleasure in serving with.
The event is a truely amazing experience for me, but not just that, it allows me to reach out to you to ask you to kindly donate as little as £5 to my cause. the more you donate the more determined I will be to finish in 20 hours. I have seen the effects that combat can have on people, not just in my military life, but also in work and everyday life. I see the struggles people face having lost the ability to see loved ones and those closest to them as well as their favourite football teams, or watch nature around them for example. It is not just the physical disability they face, it is also the psychological and social barriers placed into their lives without them having a choice. Just £5 will help allow someone to know what the time is, allow them to walk outside knowing that their safety is protected. it will allow them to have the psychological help, support and guidance needed.
Take a minute and ask yourself, how would I feel if I wake up tomorrow unable to see? How different would your life be? Close your eyes and try to walk around the home you love and know so well, how does it feel?
Take a look at www.Blindveterans.org.uk and have a look at some of the stories to be told and the fantastic work they provide. They do not just support veterans, they also support people in active service as well. And on top of that, not just those blinded or who have partially lost sight in active service either.
This year is the centenary of Blind Veterans UK, formerly known as St Dustans. All the people they have supported will appreciate your time and effort to help support such a worthy cause. Help me raise the roof and raise much needed funds.
