*** CLOSED! *** - This page is now closed for donations (10th Aug 2021). Thanks SO MUCH for your support. Together WE WILL make a difference
What a year! Anything and everything that was scheduled for 2020 was largely postponed, including the cycle but it will go ahead in 2021. The “Great rugby Cycle” organisers had hoped to set off on 1st April 2021 but continued uncertainty means it will now run between the 1st to 11th July 2021 - Here's why I'm doing it...
This means a lot to me and much, much more to many others. It’s about doing something which might reduce or prevent the anguish caused by Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
My brother-in-law, Ian developed MND and I was tortured by the savage effects of the condition as it mercilessly took his life. I now have a chance to fight back … but I need your help.
I hope you might sponsor my cycle with every penny donated going to the charity established by Scottish rugby international, Doddie Weir as he seeks to help fellow and future sufferers of this, as yet incurable disease.
I last bought a bike in the early ‘70’s – a second-hand, 10 speed racer for £10! I’m now borrowing a newer model in an attempt to cycle >1,000 miles around Ireland over Easter.
I’m more than a little nervous about the challenge but hope to complete the entire route, with your support.
I appreciate that we are all bombarded, almost daily by good causes seeking funding. I fully understand if this is just one request too many. However, if you can spare anything to help defeat this cruel disease then I’d be delighted if you’d make your donation here.
Thanks for considering this request.
HUGE THANKS if you’re also able to donate.
