Story
I am running the Reading Half marathon in March for the fab charity Creating Better Futures. They're a charity that support the education and welfare needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Zimbabwe through a variety of community based projects, aimed at empowering children to achieve their dreams. Established in 2012 they now sponsor over 200 children, supporting them with school fees, school uniforms, basic medical care and two meals a day whilst at school - all of this for just £20 a month per child! Other projects include a feeding programme which feeds over 3008 children daily during term time, sustainable chicken rearing projects, water and sanitation projects including borehole drilling and toilet block building.
Creating Better Futures now operate in 10 primary and secondary schools and are in the process of implementing sustainable community projects that can have a long lasting impact on all members of the community. Part of this new sustainable community approach will includes the reusable sanitary product project coupled with sexual health and consent classes in order to tackle the HIV/AIDS epidemic and increase opportunities for growth within the community.
I’m aiming to raise £200 for CBF. To put that into perspective:
- 200 children fed for 1 whole week
- 4 children fed for 1 whole year
- 1 child sent to school for 1 whole year (plus a little extra for new uniform!!)
- 10 family water filters
- 8 girls supplied with reusable menstrual hygiene packs keeping them in school even during that time of the month
- 2 sets of farming tools and training for 2 families.
As you can see, it is a great cause so please donate if you can, thank you very much X
