Story
Hello! I've served on the Board of the Weekley Family YMCA for over 6 years in an effort to find a way to volunteer and support the community in which I live, but also to help the communities very nearby that are in desperate need of the Weekley’s Community Outreach services.
The Weekley YMCA serves Bellaire, West U, Meyerland and the surrounding areas outside of Loop 610 south and southwest of the center.
Did you know that the Weekley Family YMCA Community Outreach Services create, sustain and staff the following programs:
- Daily Teen & Child Care
- Water Safety & Drowning Prevention
- YMCA Summer Camp Scholarships
- Youth Sports for ALL
- Senior Isolation Prevention
- Angel Tree & Operation Backpack
- Food Insecurity / Healthy Living
One of the personal highlights each year of my service on the board is partnering with my co-workers and employer to adopt a special and deserving family during the Weekley Holiday Angel Tree program. This past year we sponsored a family of 4 youth with a laptop, cowboy boots, bicycles & more! The family’s mom had prepared her children for a very small Christmas, so in her heartfelt thanks to the Weekley Family YMCA she noted that there were tears of joy from her entire family on Christmas day.
My children also each adopt an angel their age and we enjoy procuring and delivering gifts and fresh outfits to brighten the season for children who might not otherwise be able to celebrate the season with gifts.
Our personal participation in the Angel Tree Program is just one example of the amazing programs the Weekley sustains each year and all year beyond the walls of the facility.
This is my second (and final) year as the lead for the Weekley
Y Annual Campaign, so I sure do hope you will consider joining me by donating to support the communities served by the Weekley YMCA.
