My 17 year old daughter, Danica, has autism.  She was only diagnosed with autism three years ago, which finally enabled us to obtain a special needs education Statement and secure the support that Danica needs to live her life independently, which has been her primary aim.  

Prior to the diagnosis, Danica was finding life and mainstream school increasingly difficult.  School was an alien and terrifying environment that made no sense to her, she eventually had a breakdown and has spent the last three years in and out of hospital.  

Through the unwavering support of the excellent team of staff at Ferndene in Prudhoe (a special needs, mental health hospital) and a whole host of support from other professionals and agencies, Danica is at last on the road to recovery.  

I want to help raise awareness about autism, by running and raising money for the National Autistic Society.
