Hello, my name is Nicole. I am a student at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford. As part of my A Level studies, I am undertaking an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) for which I am organising a sponsored walk event.

Why are we walking? We want to raise enough money to buy a film projector and a screen so that students can make the most out of their social time at RNC, again according to the national guidelines. The national lockdowns have hit us as well as other students very hard so being able to come together for film nights when the guidelines allow, will be really great! And if there's any money remaining, this will support future social activities.

The walk happened between10am - 6pm on Saturday, 20th March 2021 when myself and a team of other students and staff from RNC walked more than an accumulated 500 miles. Some of us walked around the college campus and others tracked their miles off campus from their own locations, using the Strava app, due to the pandemic. Update: the sponsored walk went really well and several students even completed whole marathons, which was an amazing effort. Thanks to all the volunteers on the day, including teachers and sighted guides. Also to various staff, one Board member and an ex-student who walked their own routes off site to add to our totals. We smashed the mileage target and have raised more than we had hoped for. So the projector and screen for film nights are now a reality, with funds remaining for other social activities.
