So now I've decided to train for my second marathon in Abingdon in October.
The original idea of running to raise funds comes from my dads love of running marathons, cycling Lands end to John o' Groats and entering events which normal people find quite mad. I do not find it easy to run, nor do I find it enjoyable, but it does seem fairly fitting for my dad.
This charity is so close to mine and my familys heart. In 2004, my dad had a bit of a freak accident and fell off a ladder. He managed to do a lot of damage, major internal bleeding, pneumonia, MRSA and Kidney failure. He spent 4 months in the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, mostly on the Critical care unit where he received excellent care from all members of staff. Spending such a long time in bed on life support, he lost a lot of muscle, and had to relearn his balance and movement again. He's now back to full health, still running and cycling, and celebrated his 50th birthday just a few weeks ago, aswell as his 30th wedding anniversary with my mom :-)
As you can imagine, it was touch and go throughout my dads stay in hospital and there were many times we thought he wouldn't live and it was very distressing. We asked the critical care unit what they would most like from the money we raised. We figured as my dad had occupied a bed for so long, we'd get them a brand new one.
We raised a couple of thousand quid for a new intensive care bed when training for the marathon. Its £7500 for a new Intensive care bed, so we've still got a fare way to go! Please give anything at all, it all adds up! I really appreciate it!
thank you
