I managed to finish in 4hrs 55mins 7seconds - not bad for a first timer :)

 

YES, I have finally flipped & agreed to run the London Marathon in April 2010

I am already worrying about just what I have agreed to do, however I am sure if I put my mind to it I will be fine, besides I am running on behalf of a great cause so I have to make it happen!

I am running on behalf of the Volunteer Reading Help (VRH) charity

In a nutshell the charity is made up of volunteers that work with children between 6-11yrs who are unable/struggling to read that for one reason or another cannot get the level of help they require in school or at home.

Here are some shocking statistics that VRH are working to overcome:

- Almost 1 in 5 11yr olds leave school every year still struggling to read

- 12 million adults in the UK can read no better than they could when they left primary school – that’s one third of the workforce who are functionally illiterate, meaning they could not find a plumber in the Yellow Pages.

- Around 70% of children permanently excluded from school have basic literacy difficulties.
