The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

My Story

For those of you who don't know I have suffered with ME/CFS for the last 3 years. It's not a very well known condition and many people don't understand how it can affect someone's life. I struggled to manage work and my social life. I lost some friends through their lack of understanding and received negative comments which really got me down. I missed weeks of work due to being so ill and unwell, not being able to cope with everyday life. It was difficult to accept I could no longer push through my sickness and ignore it; I had to accept that I needed help.

I attended sessions with my nurse; making a personal health plan to improve my sleep patterns and home management. I visited my GP who prescribed me some medication to help with the pain and disturbed sleep. I also attended physiotherapy so I could gently build up my muscles and strength. Its taken a whole year to steady my health and keep myself at a manageable level. Obviously I still have my set-backs, but I am much more positive in my approach to overcome them. Nobody can get me down anymore.

I decided to do this run so that I could finally tell my story and inspire others who suffer with ME/CFS; showing them that life can improve and that they can overcome any set-backs!

Please give to this worthy cause. So far there is no known cure and the money will go towards research into the condition; so that hopefully one day a cure will be found. It also helps support those who suffer from the condition and their families.

Thank you

Nicola Rogers, ME/CFS sufferer.
