Story
I am not a walker. Those of you who know me will know how much I hate walking. But I hate even more how dementia affected my late father, and continues to affect so many others.
Here is Dad (Ronald Morgan 1916-1996) on his 80th birthday.
We in Team Morgan are doing what we can to support the Alzheimer's Society in memory of Dad who suffered with the disease. By stretching ourselves far beyond our comfort zones we will try in some small way to help the society continue its research into dementia care, causes, cures and prevention. We fervently hope that one day people can live in a dementia-friendly society without fear and prejudice, and readily access guidance and support across the UK.
To this end five members of Team Morgan will be joining a 13 mile trek around Salisbury Plain on September 11th this year. Sadly I won't be able to join them, but instead I shall employ my trusty walking poles to help me walk the length of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (from Cwmbran to Brecon) during the previous week. This will be a trek in excess of 35 miles - and be assured that this will be a monster challenge for such a notoriously reluctant walker!
Below is a photo of this same Team Morgan some twelve years ago, taking part in a 5k Race for Life in Cardiff. We three generations of sisters jogged, ran, walked, crawled, bunny-hopped and one of us (aged just three months at the time) was even carried over the finishing line that day. We are now all twelve years older: some are wiser, some have grey hair, and some are now considerably taller than the others. Who will be bunny-hopping and who will be the one to be carried over the finishing line this time?
Please support us with a donation however small and we’ll let you know how we all get on! Thank you all so much ❤
