Story
In October last year my Mum, Val, became an angel after she lost her fight against Alzheimer's disease. Alzhiemer's disease stole Mum's memories, talents, words, independence and fun-loving personality. What it couldn't steal was the love we have for her, her bravery, inner strength, smile and words to 'Oh what a beautiful morning'!
Thinking back at how the disease took over mum's entire body is as heartbreaking now, as it was when we watched the slow torture happening day to day. The initial confusion of how to make a cup of coffee and forgetting how to get dressed, eventually turned into forgetting faces and names of her family and friends for whom she had always put first and shared so many happy, laughter filled memories with.
Alzheimer's disease was the cruelest it could be to the most loving, kind person I've ever known. I couldn't be more proud to have had Mum as my Mum. I miss her everyday. I hope she is looking down from the clouds feeling proud of us as we walk to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.
It was Mum's resilience and bravery that will inspire me to keep putting one foot in front of the other as I take on Trek26 with Emma and Lissie. Mum's hands were warm and strong until the end and I'm sure I will feel her comforting, loving squeeze as we walk up, over and around those hills.
Thank you for reading this. And if you are able to support me I would be so very grateful 💕🌼
Lots of love xxx
