Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit and read my JustGiving page.
In October 2018 I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer following 10 hours of surgery for a Whipple procedure. This was followed by six months of chemotherapy, having spent the previous nine months in and out of Hinchingbrooke and Addenbrookes Hospital, undergoing numerous tests and procedures to try to establish the cause of my illness. I then started on the long road to recovery and took up running again - gradually building up my strength to the point to where I was able to participate at my local Parkrun again.
Having run the virtual London Marathon in October 2022, I then qualified for London Marathon 2023 with a ‘good for age’ time. As a pancreatic cancer survivor, I am running to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK to help fund vital research.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest cancer survival rate and is the 5th biggest cancer killer in the UK with 9.000 deaths every year. Early diagnosis is crucial to improve survival outcomes for people with pancreatic cancer; with one-year survival in those diagnosed at an early stage six times higher than one-year survival in those diagnosed at stage four. However, most people with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed at a late stage and more than half of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within three months.
All donations will be greatly appreciated so that we can improve the early detection rates and create more pancreatic cancer survivors like me.
Thank you for your support.
