Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I wanted to challenge myself, so entered the Great North Swim as i love wild swimming. I’m swimming for my niece Yasmin as she was tragically diagnosed with Nieman Pick type C at 5 years old. It’sa cruel degenerative disease, meaning Yasmin, now aged 21 depends on round the clock care for her needs.
She’s still such a happy girl and loves being surrounded by people, particularly family. She also loves music and has a very cheeky smile.
NPUK support families affected by the disease abs any money raised goes directly to them. Read more about the charity below.
Niemann-Pick Type C is a very rare and devastating inherited neurodegenerative disease that affects babies, children and adults. It is caused by a protein deficiency which leads to an accumulation of lipids (fats) in the liver, brain and spleen. The brain and other organs are affected leading to progressive intellectual decline, loss of mobility and motor skills and seizures.
There is currently no cure for this disease and treatments focus on managing symptoms and maximising quality of life.
NPUK is a small charity dedicated to making a positive difference to the lives of patients and their families affected by Niemann-Pick disease. The charity provides much needed practical and emotional support, advice and information to families, raises awareness of the condition and facilitates research into potential therapies.
