Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon on 2nd October 2022 for the charity Hospice UK. This challenge is the 3rd physical activity challenge for me of 2022 including 'Running 100 miles in the month of January', 'Swimming 6.5km in the Bantham Swoosh on 17th July 2022' and more to come after the marathon.
I am participating in all of these events to raise awareness of the link between physical activity and health issues that can shorten or change your life such as dementia, some cancers, cardio-vascular disease and osteoperosis. One of these conditions is bowel cancer, which my mother sadly died of in June 2016. She was looked after in her final weeks by a Hospice in Lancashire and Hospice UK help to raise funds for these facilities, which are not funded fully by the government but form a vital part of the care offering for patients with terminal or life limiting conditions.
A number of conditions that are contributed to by decreased physical activity are the very conditions that could mean you need the care of a Hospice. I am trying to raise awareness of this link through these physical activity challenges and to reduce my own risk of developing them. Movement is medicine!
