Story
Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
The Prince’s Trust addresses this by giving practical and financial support to the young people who need it most. They help develop key skills, confidence and motivation, enabling young people to move into work, education or training. To continue this vital work, The Prince’s Trust need to raise £50 million this year alone.
Each year, The Prince’s Trust hosts a national competition called Million Makers; challenging teams of employees and university students to come together and attempt to raise a combined £1 million for The Prince’s Trust and make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people across the UK.
We aim to raise as much money as possible for The Prince’s Trust by publishing Hampshire’s first dedicated recipe book, The Hampshire Cookbook and all profit made from both The Hampshire Cookbook sponsorship and book sales will be donated to The Prince’s Trust.
Some examples of the great work The Prince’s Trust does and some examples of what donations can achieve for disadvantaged young people include:
£20 can pay for a peer facilitator to lead classes and help our young people get the most out of group activities to develop their social and motivational skills.
£50 can purchase the tools, training and equipment needed by an unemployed young person to move into the workplace.
£120 can help The Prince’s Trust give advice and guidance to at least sixty young people calling our telephone helpline.
£200 can pay for two months’ support from a programme officer to train new Prince’s Trust Advisors in schools.
£250 can support a hard-to-reach young person through the Get Started programme, engaging them through their interests and in turn, helping them to turn their life around.
In June, seven members of HCR staff representing business units from across the whole business began the Million Makers process including pitching a business plans to a Dragons’ Den style panel, in order to secure an initial investment from The Prince's Trust.
Our team of volunteers identified that Hampshire should be proud and shout about our local produce (the Dragons agreed) and as a result, will be producing the first ever Hampshire Cookbook!
Our participation in Million Makers provides a perfect opportunity to harness our people’s passion and creativity whilst raising money for The Prince’s Trust alongside supporting and promoting Hampshire businesses.
Along with HCR, please pledge your support today so that the vital work that The Prince’s Trust do can continue.
Thank you,
Simon, Lisa, Jack, Liz, Alex, Nicky and Emma.
