Story
Myotonic muscular dystrophy (MMD) is a form of muscular dystrophy that affects muscles and many other organs in the body.
The most common effects of Myotonic Dystrophy are musle weakness and muscle wasting which progressively deteriorate over time. It is misleading to think that Myotonic Dystrophy is just a muscle disorder as it affects many other body functions, including the heart, lungs, gastrointestinal system. It can also cause problems with cognitive function, personality and vision.
In April 2006, my father died from Myotonic Dystrophy. His quality of life in his last few years dramatically declined and becane very poor. He was bed bound, unable to sit up or turn himself. He was unable to eat. In the last few months he lost the ability to talk as his tongue muscle no longer worked and his vision became very poor.
I have another 6 members of my family who all have the condition. My brother, my 2 sisters, and 3 nephews. I can pray for them. love them and care for them but I would like to try and raise money to help fund research, to find better treatment for suffers of the condition and maybe one day find a cure. The Myotonic Dystrophy support group also offer a life line and assisstance, support and advice to all those affected by Myotonic Dystrophy. The charity relies on donations to carry out their valuable work.
So if you could just donate something, no matter how small, to help me in my efforts to raise some money for them, I would be extremely grateful.
