Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our fund raising page.

Nico, Alex, Char, Mel, Iain, George, Gareth, Ian, Mark, Dave, Max, Graham and Harry are all running the Chester half marathon with more to be confirmed

We are running the Chester Half Marathon to raise money for Andrea's chosen charity, which is the Book Bus, during Andrea's travel of the world she fell in love with the country and people of Ecuador and wanted to support the country's children in particular.

We are hoping to raise £500 for Book Bus and are looking forward to testing and pushing ourselves to successfully complete this Half Marathon.

Andrea was a loving Wife, Daughter, Sister, Friend and Auntie and was loved by many.  Andrea sadly passed away in December 2013 from oesophageal cancer.  Please donate to this extremely worthwhile cause, any donations are greatly appreciated.

One in six adults around the world have come through childhood unable to read and write, a situation mainly due to lack of books and opportunity to read.

In 2008 the Book Bus began delivering books to schools in Zambia and working with children to inspire them to read. Five years on and we have opened reading schemes in Zambia, Malawi, Ecuador and India where over 5,000 children now have books that are relevant and accessible to read. We look forward to continuing our reading schemes in 2013 with the aim of reaching a further 10,000 children by 2015.

It’s a well-known fact that poverty stems from lack of education. Literacy rates in sub-Saharan Africa are as low as 15% which means that education for many children is just not happening. The Book Bus gets children reading so they can climb onto the learning ladder and improve their chances in life
