Story
As many of you know, our daughter Megan was diagnosed with Meningitis at only 3 days old, and we were told that she might not survive. 6 years on she is a happy, healthy and unscathed little girl, and that is mainly down to the work of the Meningitis Research Foundation. I I have also in the past few years met many people who are not as fortunate as us and their stories have very different endings.
I wanted to raise money for the charity in a way that would push me to my absolute limit and Kilimanjaro provides my idea of hell on just about every level ! For those who don't know me, here are my concerns :
1) I hate flying.
2) I don't do exercise.
3) I don't like heights.
4) Or camping.
5) Or the cold.
6) Or spiders.
7) I have a phobia of vomit.
So, that about covers everything that I'll be faced with. Hopefully. However, compared to what some survivors of Meningitis are faced with in terms of both physical and brain injuries, it's 10 days of my life, and a lifetime of theirs.
Meningitis doesn't discriminate - any one of you could get it at any time. Got to be worth a few Quid to go towards the research that could save your life isn't it ?
I'd also like to add, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT !!!!!!! Any of the costs incurred in this trip will be funded by me and I will raise the funds for that myself (that's £1800) so ANY MONEY YOU SPONSOR ME AS INDIVIDUALS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHARITY !!!!!!! In no way are you funding my mid-life crisis !
