Story
In August I'll be running a 150 mile race through game conservancies in Kenya… while trying not to become a meal for any of the wildlife!
It’s a self-sufficient 5 day stage race so I’ll be carrying all my own food and kit for 30 miles of running each day in temperatures up to (or over) 30oC.
Just 58 people from 12 countries have been lucky enough to secure a space in this incredible event, which I expect to be one of the toughest I’ve done.
The runners will be protected from the surrounding wildlife (it really is through open game conservancies full of predators!) by a team of Rangers who are also the front line in protecting Rhino, Elephant and other species from the serious threat posed by heavily armed poachers. The event is looking to raise as much money and awareness for them.
I’ve paid for the event, travel and all accommodation, so all donations
are going to the Save The Rhino charity and are earmarked for support to the Rangers. Reasons I hope you’ll choose to support me with a donation:
- I believe it’s an important cause which needs urgent support if these incredible creatures are not to be wiped out
- I think it’s a tough event and I’ve not asked for sponsorship before, so kept my powder dry for this one!
Some background about the issues:
- In just a decade, more than 7,200 African rhinos have been lost to poaching
- On the 19th March, Sudan, the last male Northern White Rhino, died at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya – That’s a major species on the brink of extinction in our lifetimes!
- Over 1,000 rangers have been killed in the line of duty since 2003
I hope that’s incentive enough to get your support, but if not… just to re-iterate that there's a chance of me being eaten - that’s got to be worth a few quid!
Please give generously and everything raised will be hugely appreciated by me and the Rangers I’m looking to help.
