Story
I'm not gonna lie, 2022 has been pretty amazing for me so far. I got to marry my wife Kristine at a brilliant ceremony in England, surrounded by family, and friends from so many chapters of our lives. It truly reminded me of the impact the people we meet have in shaping our own stories.
Not much would have made our amazing wedding better, but one thing we both agreed on was that we wished Simon has been there.
We lost Simon in his physical form in 2021, but his energy, his cheeky grin, and his love for life shine on in those of us who knew him.
I miss him. We all miss him.
So fuck cancer, and fuck brain cancer especially. I've known too many wonderful people taken by this disease.
I'm running the NYC Marathon again (again), and I've been working hard to do better than I did last year. At least I thought that was the plan til I got CoVid twice this year... but I've been lucky enough to escape unscathed, so I'm just over 1,000 miles for the year, and will chalk up another 220 or so before the marathon in 5 week time.
I know Simon would laugh at the stupidity of me running an excessive amount of mileage, but he'd also be a bloody brilliant cheerleader.
So I am using this moment to remember those we have lost and those battling diseases like this cancer.
In many ways, this is a tough year for all of us, so please donate any spare cash, any amount large or small, to making a difference where we can.
In 2020, I managed my NYC Marathon in 4:09. Not bad for an old man! Last year I did it in 3:51, so I am trying to better that this year... Let's see what happens!
Simon will be one of my reasons to run. He was, and is still, an inspiration to me and many others
