Story

Nick has been managing director for CES Hire for well over three decades (in fact the company itself turns 40 next year!). As a company CES Hire are supporting Nick's amazing 50km cycle challenge.

Nick would regard himself as amateur cyclist, having been cycling just over 3 years; however he enjoys his weekend cycles which take him through the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside. The Nightrider London event will certainly take Nick out of his comfort zone seeing him complete a 50km course through London at night. The event takes place on June 11th so will give Nick 4 months of training and fundraising time; we'll be cheering him on! It's also worth noting, June 11th is Nick's wedding anniversary (39 years!) so he's giving up that anniversary dinner for a 50km cycle, surely that's worth a tenner!

Nick has never cycled this distance before which he is anticipating may take around 3 hours. His longest cycle is currently about an hour and a half but as he said living in a particularly hilly area works in his favour as 'if you can do the hills, you can do anything!' Nick is really looking forward to the big event, being part of the amazing atmosphere of thousands of cyclists supporting one another, plus of course the wow factor of London at night. Nick is being joined by his neighbour Arup in this challenge, so the pair will be able to support one another throughout training and during the event itself.

Now the important part, why is Nick putting himself through this! Though the event will be a lot of fun, the driving force behind the challenge is raising money for a cause close to Nick's heart, the Alzheimer’s Society. Nick supported his aunt, Sylvia through her journey with dementia over many years. He was there to rescue her at those moments when sadly she lost her way home, he was there to continue making new memories as well preserving the old special family memories that Sylvia would love to talk about. Sylvia was also a key part of CES for many years working in the office team as the accounts clerk. Though sadly Sylvia is no longer with us, Nick and the family have many wonderful memories with her and he will be cycling in her memory.

Nick is also inspired to complete this challenge for his best friend of around 35 years, Dave. Dave was diagnosed with dementia over 18 months ago. The pair have many wonderful memories together with their families, particularly years of family holidays in a very special place, The Isle of Wight. Nick is undertaking this challenge to support Dave and his family and to continue many more years of their trips over to the Island!

We hope you will join CES in giving Nick the very best support to encourage him through this challenge whilst supporting a hugely worthwhile cause. Thank you.
