Story
I have taken on a challenge that I have wanted to do since I was a school boy, except now, I am an unfit, accident-prone middle aged man, whose frame does not fit into skimpy Italian cycling gear (even the XXL size).
Lands End to John O Groats is 980 miles over 8 days from 4th to 12th September 2021. This means the most intensive and long term training plan I have ever done. I envisage I'll need to cycle some 10,000 miles between now and get enough miles through my legs, and my bum used to 8 x 10 hour days in the saddle.
Whilst I am doing this with a team, all supporting Advanta Foundation, we are staying in tents and using portaloos - two of my biggest fears. I think I fear this more than the actual ride.
I know it is possibly the worst time ever to ask for money, but please consider the joy it will give you to know you're motivating me to go through a hell of a lot of pain for the rest of this year!
The Advanta Foundation raises money for children's charities in the UK and abroad, with 100% of this event being funded by the Advanta Group (or myself), meaning every penny we raise goes to help a child in need.
Over the years the Advanta Foundation has raised £100,000s for amazing causes. You can see more of their good work here: www.advantafoundation.co.uk
Update March 2022: Sadly, I did not get to finish this ride. At the end of day four I got some sad news about my mum, which meant leaving somewhere north of Manchester and rushing back south to the hospital she was in. Leaving the ride meant I managed to spend her last few days with her, but I left something unfinished. I will be back this year to finish it and I thank everyone who sponsored me thus far.
