Flora London Marathon 2007 · 22 April 2007 ·
After 5 hours and 11 minutes, I finally crossed the line! The heat throughout was unbearable, but the experience was one I will never ever forget. Thanks to all those who have sponsored me so far, it would be great if we could pass the £10,000 mark so please dig deep! This was the story of why I wanted to do it and why it meant so much to me......
My nephew Rudy was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia, a rare and potentially life threatening condition, the day after he was born in October 2005. He was immediately rushed to GOSH and put on a ventilator in neonatal intensive care where he was cared and treated for in the most wonderful way. He had emergency surgery at 4 days old and, luckily for us, has since made a full recovery and is now a very active, very cheeky 16 month old! During his stay, the GOSH staff were amazing and the hospital is quite simply a lifesaver and for that I will be eternally grateful. I have set myself this challenge (my brother-in-law, Jeremy, wanted to do it but couldn't manage to run 6 miles never mind the other 20!) as GOSH is a fantastic charity that urgently needs huge amounts of money to keep it at the forefront of helping sick children. I know that there are numerous requests of sponsorship for lots of worthy charities but please dig deep as this really is one of the most important charities around and without it my sister and brother-in-law may not have such a happy and healthy little boy. Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) will receive your money and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. Nick Leigh & Jeremy Fine (chief fundraser ! )
