Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising funds and awareness for The Menopause Charity who work to help everyone understand perimenopause and menopause so no one needlessly suffers.
My story - I have been perimenopausal for the last 3 years although at 44, battled for 2 1/2 years of that with multiple GP’s being told “you’re too young”
The cognitive side effects hit me hard, low mood, extreme rages, brain fog, memory issues with my confidence literally getting to rock bottom. Combined with low energy and constant niggles, I lost my spark for most things including my love for running - not me at all.
My desperation point was asking my husband to hide strong painkillers I used for hormonal headaches as was at a point it would be easier not to be here to deal with life (of course, it was the hormones talking)
I am fortunate to be able to seek private treatment via The Newson Clinic and the HRT prescribed quite literally saved me. 3 months in and haven’t looked back. Even taken a minute off my course PB at my local parkrun - life in the legs yet!
100km is a nemesis distance for me, with the issues above, started but yet to finish. Race to the King is to prove to me and others, hormonal change doesn’t mean life has to stop - with the right support, anything is possible!
Along side the run (jog and crawl!) 100km, I will be training to become a Menopause Champion with Talking Menopause (May) and working with my local parkrun to provide “Meno-walk & talk” as parkwalker to support others who are either going through this or know someone who is.
Thank you to all who follow my journey and updates and here’s to showing life can begin at this next chapter!
