Story

Thanks for visiting my Just Giving page - my Dad and I are doing a sponsored parachute jump to help Maggie's in Cheltenham. As many of you know, over the past three years we've gone through a lot of learning with Mum's ovarian cancer and want to try to give back to one of the organisations that's been of big support recently.

A diagnosis of cancer inevitably brings feelings of isolation and despair - particularly for the individual but also for many of the loved ones around them. With ever advancing medical science, living with cancer thankfully becomes more and more possible - but the emotional and psychological pressures will always be there. 1 in 3 people are likely to need such treatment at some stage of their life - meaning many people will be affected by cancer both directly and indirectly.

Which is where Maggie's comes in.

The wonderful new Maggie's at Cheltenham (it opened at the end of 2010 - we wish it had been available throughout the last 3 years!) is a dedicated and uplifting place for everyone affected by cancer. Just a few small steps away from the Oncology department at Cheltenham - but a giant leap away from the daunting and draining Waiting, Consulting and Treatment rooms at the hospital. The hospital staff are always wonderful and understanding - but can never hope to eliminate the inevitable tension in the clinical environment.

Professionally staffed and available to people at every stage of their cancer experience, Maggie's was founded to bridge a missing support gap and provides the needed emotional and psychological support as well as essential basic practical information and down-to-earth advice - especially when news of cancer is first delivered.

Maggie's is a charity which relies on community support to be able to provide their invaluable free-of-charge facilities and help.

Which is why, on 2 August, Dad and I will be joining a small group jumping out of an aeroplane 3 miles above South Cerney airfield - securely (hopefully!) strapped to a Red Devil of the Army's prestigious free-fall parachute display team.

Donating to Maggie's through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Donors names needn't be shown, nor individual donation amounts. All your details are safe with JustGiving and once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Many thanks for any contribution - any amount, small or large, makes a big difference!

Thanks again,

Nick
