I am motivated to do this for my sister-in-law who has recently been through treatment for breast cancer. Barbara has become a fundraiser for Breakthrough as she feels this is the best charity to support in the fight against breast cancer.

The effort of attempting my first ever 10k run is nothing compared to that of dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing monitoring of the disease.

Over 41,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
1 in 9 women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime.
More than 1,000 women die from the disease every month.
Around 300 men a year are diagnosed with breast cancer.

It is therefore likely that most people will have had some contact with breast cancer, the good news is that more women than ever are surviving breast cancer thanks to better awareness, better treatments and better screening.
