Story
Nick & Jess walk for MS
On 7 September, we're taking on Singapore's newly opened coast-to-coast walking trail, and extending it for a bigger challenge - to walk across the country from the southwest to northeast tip. It's around 50km in total, from Tuas to Punggol.
Why are we doing this, you might be wondering?
Since living in Singapore, Jess' family sadly lost two very important members - Sue and Kathie, to cancer and MS respectively. Her two aunts were some of the many strong female role models in the family. Given Sue's unparalleled sense of adventure and love of the outdoors, and Kathie's steely determinism and humour, this feels like a fitting challenge to take on in their memory. Sue was our first visitor to Singapore in 2016, and the photos above are from our walks together around the country.
We're fundraising for the MS Society to raise vital funds for research, as part of its MS Walk campaign. We hope this challenge also helps raise awareness of the condition in Singapore.
How to support :
We are absolutely not underestimating how challenging this is going to be. A 10 minute walk in the sweltering heat and humidity of Singapore can be tough, so to take on 12 hours+ is a daunting prospect. But we are determined, and we'd love your support. You can help us in the following ways:
- Donate: Please give whatever you can via this fundraising page*.
- Join in! For friends in Singapore, join our walking route if you can - whether it's for 5km or 500m. Please get in touch and we'll let you know our route and approximate checkpoints (see the NParks C2C trail for a rough idea).
*If you like, you can also/alternatively donate to Ripple Africa via this fundraising site Jess' family set up in Sue's name. She spent several months volunteering in Malawi for the charity and loved their work, and we'd all like to continue supporting them in memory of Sue. We can't split our fundraising efforts but we're championing both causes, so take your pick :)
