We are raising money on the behalf of the University of Leicester for their continued efforts and research into the management of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), from laboratory research, to genetic links behind AAA and new treatments to make surgery safer.
As a family we have chosen this charity as Nick attended Frimley Park Hospital for a 'routine' AAA operation on the 8th January of this year. However there were numerous complications during the surgery which resulted in Nick fighting for his life for several weeks. The ICU team at Frimley were fantastic and did everything possible, but in the end there was just nothing more they could do. Nick passed away on 13th February 2019.
The following few weeks were spent waiting for the coroner to decide if any further action was required, which it is. An inquest will now be held in August. The delay meant we were not able to celebrate his life with friends and family until the 28th March. However after the long wait he is now at rest.
Nick was, coincidentally, a past pupil of the University of Leicester so it seemed appropriate to assist them as they strive to save the lives of future AAA patients.
