Story
I was originally due to take on this challenge in September 2020 and my inspiration to raise money was my beautiful Mother In law Sylvia who had suffered for 15 years from this cruel disease. Unfortunately, the ride had to be postponed due to Covid. In February of this year Sylvia sadly lost her battle with Alzheimer’s and so this ride has become even more important to me to try and raise as much money as possible in her memory. Please help make that happen.
Alzheimer’s disease has not only touched the lives of my close family but also the lives of friends and work colleagues. This heartbreaking disease does not just affect the sufferer, I have seen first hand the devastating impact it has on their loved ones. Dementia slowly takes a person away, it really is the longest goodbye. Starting with ruining short term memory, it continues to destroy all the colourful, loving memories built over a lifetime until there are only glimpses of their personality left.. Alongside this, dementia also removes the ability to carry out everyday tasks, ultimately resulting in the inability to live independently. Alzheimer’s Society not only provides support to sufferers and families, but also supports research in the hope of one day finding a cure; all of this only happens through fundraising, so I have chosen to do my bit by cycling the length of Great Britain.
In September 2021 I will set off from Land’s End and over the next 9 days cycle through 27 counties in England, Wales and Scotland covering 970 miles to arrive at John O’Groats. This is going to be a huge personal challenge for me, but a worthwhile one if I can raise money for such an important cause.
My fundraising goal is £3,000 and I thank everyone who made donations last year from the bottom of my heart, you have all been in my mind whilst training through the gruelling winter months. Donations have been carried forward to this page. For those that didn’t get the opportunity last year, clicking a few buttons from the comfort of your sofa is all you need to do to push me to get up at 5.00am to cycle over 100 miles a day, no matter what the British weather throws at me!!
Your support will be invaluable in keeping me motivated and give me the incentive to keep going through the daily pain barrier, thank you.
