Story
.
10 days ago, my youngest son Noah was knocked off his bike by a car.
The driver was NOT speeding, using a phone or doing anything else other than concentrating on the road.
It was a freak, split second incident that could have happened to anyone.
Noah was assessed at the scene of the accident by the Paramedics and the air ambulance Doctors.
The decision was then made, based on the damage to the car, the bike and his helmet and the fact that he had been unconscious, that he should be taken, by air ambulance to the Bristol children’s hospital.
Fortunately after many tests and scans it was discovered that no injuries were sustained internally and he was treated for minor cuts and bruises.
Everyone at the scene and the hospital , including the Police, the Paramedics, the Doctors , the trauma team and the consultants all agreed that had he not been wearing his helmet, they could have been dealing with severe brain injuries or worse (the helmet was cracked at the front and the back) and our lives and his would never be the same again.
So now to the point of this post and I can’t stress this enough,
Please, please, please always wear a cycle helmet when you’re out on your bikes and PLEASE ALWAYS ensure your children wear them.
The mental stress this unfortunate event has put on our family and the drivers family has been horrendous, but it could have been far worse!
If this post changes one person’s attitude to wearing a helmet, some good will have come from this unfortunate accident.
Please take care, stay safe and WEAR YOUR HELMETS 🙏
