Great Ethiopian Run (10k at 7700 ft) · 22 November 2009
Dear Friends,
It's over! Check out the nobbly knees after the run, but they got me round in 1hr 04. which is not bad for an old un. I reckon I would have got under the hour but I ran as much sideways as I did forward just avoiding the people.

The above Youtube site is from Orbis, another charity. But it best depicts the Great Ethiopian Run with some great images of the run itself.
This site stays open for another 2 months.
Thanks once more
Nick
On the 22nd November I will be attempting the Gt Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa. It won't be the 10k that will kill me but the altitude. At 2700 meters the air will be a bit breathless. I don't look as fit these days as I did in 1985 so I am not giving an estimate time for the run.
Anything that you can do will be appreciated. Vision Aid Overseas, my chosen charity, are a very focused organisation and I have witnessed the work that they do in Northern Ethiopia. Here are just 3 few facts that tell the important story.
1. There are over 600000 people with cataracts in Ethiopia. Cataracts are operable. It just requires more trained doctors and equipment. A cataract operation costs as little as £15. For this small sum, you can save sight and maybe a life.
2. An Ethiopian who loses sight can expect to live just two years more. There are no guide dogs for these people. If they can't feed their families then there is no future.
3. Most people go blind through refractive error (glasses ). By simply providing specs it is possible to save sight. In Ethiopia, most of the people cannot get to see an optician.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Regards
Nick
