Age UK Kent Rivers provides a range of invaluable support services in the local communities of Medway, Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley, Faversham and Sittingbourne, each of which help older people, adults with learning disabilities, their families, and their carers, to Achieve Life's Fullness.

Story

Working for Age UK Medway, I have the privilege every day of seeing the positive impact we have on the lives of older people. This has never been truer than during the last twelve months, when the charity has worked tirelessly to provide much-needed emotional, mental, and physical support for Medway’s older generation.

But, if there’s one lesson we have learned from the pandemic, it’s that as much as we’d like to, we can’t always be there for our clients with face-to-face support. Until now!

Working with a specialist TV-connected platform Age UK Medway can now provide older people with an easy-to-use way to remain connected with their family and friends, and mentally and physically stimulated, at times when they’re unable to leave their home. And so...

  • for £10 each month, an older person living alone will be able to use their television to connect with our day centre and take part in activity sessions, or chat with their friends,

  • for £10 each month, a couple will be able to spend precious time with their grandchildren on a video call, without needing to understand Zoom,

  • and for £10 each month, every user will be able to feel part of a community, even when life makes it difficult.

Our aim now, is to raise enough money to provide the service free of charge to individuals for the first twelve months. So, as part of that fundraising campaign, on 12thJune I will be taking part in the Lake District Ultra Challenge, walking 100km non-stop.

My aim is to raise £1200, to make a difference to the lives of ten older people in Medway’s communities.
And if you can help by making a donation I, and they, would be so very grateful.
