Nick's London to Amsterdam Cycling Challenge 2024

Fundraising for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide
£1,025
raised of £500 target
In memory of Anna King
We support young people at risk of suicide to stay safe and find hope in times of need

Story

Nearly 10 years ago - on 8th October 2014, my daughter’s friend Anna took her own life aged just 19. By cycling from London to Amsterdam (360 miles) in her memory, I hope to increase awareness and raise important funds for Papyrus.

This attempt will be self-funded – all monies raised will go directly to Papyrus, I will also be self-supporting and with only one other cyclist, which means we:

    * Need to carry all our clothes, medicines and tools for the entire trip

    * Have had to book our own trains, ferries and accommodation

    * Will be planning our own food stops as we go

    * Will be doing our own maintenance and running repairs

    * Can’t afford to get lost/mugged/ill/injured

Itinerary

Day 0 Home to London (20 miles + train)

Day 1 London to Calais (95 miles + ferry)

Day 2 Calais to Bruges (80 miles)

Day 3 Bruges to Breda (95 miles)

Day 4 Breda to Amsterdam (90 miles)

    Day 4+ Rest Day!

Overnight ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle

Day  4++ Newcastle to Home (80 miles - optional)

My employer will match the first £500 raised and I would also really appreciate it if those who are eligible would also consider adding Gift Aid.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK.

Papyrus is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide and believes that many young suicides are preventable. They operate HOPELINEUK, a confidential call, text, and email helpline for young people with thoughts of suicide or those concerned about a young person who may have thoughts of suicide. Every £5 raised can help pay for a potentially life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK from a young person wanting to stay safe from their thoughts of suicide.

Thank you,

Nick.
