Story
Being fairly new to Chicago, I wanted to do something that gave me a bit of Chicago pride - and after watching the marathon runners back in 2019, I thought "well, that looks like it sucks," and so I signed up. Now, 2 years later, after having last year's marathon cancelled, I'm finally getting to complete this goal of mine and add my name to the list of almost a million runners since the marathon's inception.
I also wanted to run for a bigger cause. I have an Aunt back home in Brooklyn who is currently battling breast cancer (although you wouldn't know it if you spoke with her), and thought it would be great to accomplish such a big goal of running this marathon in my new city while also raising awareness for my Aunt and millions others like her. The Lynn Sage foundation was an easy choice to pick in regards to breast cancer charities, and they've been nothing short of spectacular after all the cancelling, rescheduling, and craziness that last year brought.
To keep fundraising fun - and to get a laugh out of anyone on race day - I decided to put the face of whoever donates the most money on the back of my Lynn Sage t-shirt. I don't figure too many people will be behind me, so I'm sorry to say it won't be the best publicity you could receive.
