Story
* Please note - we have deferred our marathon places to April 2023 due to the loss of our mum *
Our brother, Robert Henry Farrell Golding died in his sleep 4th February 2021 at the age of 29, just months before he was meant to get married.
With no obvious cause of death, we waited four months to find out that Robert died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, a sudden and unexplained cardiac arrest that proved fatal.
To say we were devastated is an understatement. The bottom fell out of our world and we have spent the last 14 months trying to figure out life without him and adjust to the silence we have been left with - and coming to terms with a future without his laugh, outrageous jokes and colourful use of the English Language.
Robert was our (not so little) brother, the one that made us laugh uncontrollably, made us look bad in front of our parents, and made people fall in love with him just for being there.
We made a decision that everything we do in life, is done for Robert. We get to continue to live for him - and what better way to celebrate that, than to complete the London Marathon.... something he would be absolutely howling at the thought of us doing (well he'd be laughing at Nici doing it, Chris would get the cheers!).
So, on 02.10.2022, Nici and Chris will be running* the London Marathon in memory of Rob for SADS UK, a charity which assists families like ours and raises awareness of sudden cardiac death. SADS UK also
- Liaise with Government agencies to improve diagnosis and treatment of people affected by SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome)
- Fund research into Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome and sudden cardiac arrest
- Fund defibrillators in schools and the community (Community Public Access Defibrillators, CPADs)
- Fund cardiac equipment for medical establishments
- Counselling and support for people affected by SADS or sudden cardiac arrest
* Chris will run. Nici will likely hobble and sob....
