Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I had the pleasure of playing Rugby for over 25 years until I tried to make a tackle that my head could make but my body couldn't. Major shoulder reconstruction followed and 2 years of re-hab. Since then, despite missing it like mad I haven't been able to play the game I love. Compared to others though, I am lucky, Rugby is a confrontation sport, some people get life-changing injuries and that is where the Injured Players Foundation (IPF) play their part. The IPF are part of the RFU and concentrate on two main areas SUPPORT and PROTECTION.
- SUPPORT – the IPF provides immediate and lifelong support for all seriously injured rugby union players - £1million, raised over four years, would mean more support for players who are permanently disabled, including: vehicle adaptations, house conversions, communication aids, retraining courses and adapted sports equipment
- PROTECTION – the IPF funds research and training to protect players by reducing the risk of serious injury - £500,000 raised over 4 years, would mean they could help to make the game safer through more injury prevention research and funding for grassroots first aid training and equipment
When I was recovering from my shoulder injury I bought a bike and started cycling. I haven't been doing much of it over the last couple of years as I have found ways to injure myself that don't involve rugby, so getting round 100 miles of roads in London & Surrey including the fearsome Leith and Box Hills is going to be a challenge. But I can think of no better motivation to get through it than doing something to help the wider Rugby Family and I appreciate your generous help in increasing that motivation
