Story
New year + new charity + fractured toe = Virgin London Marathon 2014!!!
WHAT & WHEN
Sunday 13th April 2014, I will push myself to the limit by running my debut 26.2 miles in the Virgin London Marathon & wearing a blue tutu, to make a huge difference for Parkinson's patients & their family.
WHO
I will be running in loving memory of my Grandmother, an Alzheimer's disesase sufferer, who passed away Friday 21st March 2014.
I am raising money for a charity supporting the elderly, Parkinson's UK, as I know with your help this will change the lives of the patient and the whole family supported by Parkinson's UK.
HOW
Your generosity will help for providing funds for a ground-breaking research project.
Research suggests 83% of people with Parkinson’s will develop some form of dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease. Professor David Burn, leading expert in the field of dementia, & team are leading a study looking at whether it is possible to identify people with Parkinson’s who have a high risk of developing dementia.
In the final 18 months of study (Jan 2014 - July 2015), the project will give researchers clues to develop new treatments that can slow down, stop or even reverse the condition.
As dementia progresses, it can substantially affect a person’s whole life and that of their family. Basic tasks such as dressing and washing become a struggle. Dementia robs people of their independence, relationships and all the activities they used to enjoy.
WHY this is important to me...Parkinson's offers huge care and support that both patients and their families need, they go the extra mile.
We can stop people with Parkinson’s from developing dementia in the future.
£20 – funds an hour of care from a specialist Parkinson's nurse.
£40 – pays for an education session in a hospital ward.
£250 – funds a day of research.
Thank you very much for your donation.
This really means a lot to me & to Parkinson’s UK in finding a cure.
