Story
I am supporting RMA - The Royal Marines Charity by running in the Heron Half 2019.
The Heron Half is named after HMS Heron - RNAS Yeovilton - and proceeds already go to the both the RMA and the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir.
I am running the race not only for an amazing cause, but also pushing for a challenging PB of sub-1hr 28mins...it might just be doable. It seems a great opportunity to use this very personal challenge to raise some further money to help this incredible cause.
Why the RMA? I have had the absolute pleasure of meeting and working with former members of the Royal Marines, all of whom have left indelible marks upon me; my life, health and prospects (and all for the absolute better!). I have benefitted from their absolute loyalty to their friends and colleagues, their commitment to giving their all for those close to them, as well as seeing first hand their awe-inspiring work effort and commitment to doing what is right, no matter the personal cost.
A huge part of this is thanks to John at South West Maritime Academy - an inspiration and true friend. His support and drive inspire the best in others, and the lengths he has often gone to to ensure those around him are supported and looked after are endless. To be part of a business and environment that enshrines such traits is an honour and pleasure.
I have also had the enormous privilege of gaining the support of Mark Ormrod, who despite challenges far in excess of what most of us could ever imagine, has persevered and powered through to become an inspiration for many.
Both of these people, along with many others, have shown what can be done with some solid commitment, a generous amount of hard work and the support of truly good people. In common they all have one thing - a service to our country as Royal Marines.
How much more could be achieved by so many more of these guys if the support was there to support them when they leave the services? How many more people could benefit from their approach and ethos?
Please do support the cause. I am always happy to answer any questions or give information, please do just ask!
Thanks.... Nick
