Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for my Dad.
My Dad…. a great man, a role model and an idol I have hero worshipped for as long as I can remember. A modest, genuine and caring man who would do anything for anyone. An avid football fan and a lover of sport in general. Some of my earliest and happiest memories involve playing cricket with my Dad across the country. Always the centre of attention in pubs and at BBQ’s, he would entertain with his intelligent humour and fascinating stories. He has lived quite a life, he was evacuated in WW2, went to 28 different schools and narrowly avoided death on several occasions. He loved to share his amazing stories and pass on his wisdom.
Unfortunately, my Dad is not the same man I grew up with, he is a shadow of his former self, riddled with doubt, anxiety and fear. He is now extremely quiet and reserved and isn’t comfortable holding conversations in social situations. He is no longer the confident man who once relished meeting new people, he is the shrinking violet. He is being systematically destroyed by a cruel and unforgiving illness that is without prejudice.
Alzheimer’s dementia doesn’t just affect an individual, if affects an entire family. My Dad is now completely dependent on my Mum, who is the most loving and conscientious carer. Watching this disease slowly take hold of my family has been heart breaking.
The only way to beat Dementia is through research into finding a cure. Alzheimer’s Research funds a broad range of projects to understand dementia and drive towards better diagnosis, preventions and treatments.
Please help me to raise money for this important and worthwhile cause. We can’t change what’s happening to my Dad now, but we can help to change the future for other families.
