Stonehenge Trek 2015 · 5 September 2015 ·
Nannie has always been a little forgetful, it was always a family joke that she would have to go through at least 4 other family members names (including the pets and ignoring gender) before she got to yours... However last Summer she was diagnosed with the early stages of Dementia.
We're very lucky that our family is very positive and whenever we are together there is constant laughter and smiles whether at parties, days out together or just on Skype or the phone. This past year however has been tough for Nannie - and Grampa as well, through support and worrying about their future. And we want to keep on laughing with each other for as long as possible.
Nannie has always stood by me and been a confident, loving, inspirational character in my life. My biggest fear is that one day I will be a stranger to her - which terrifies me!
She has already told me to make sure I take plenty of photos of my cousins and myself during the trek so as she can be a part of the memory. And it will give us and her something meaningful to share and look back on. Both Nannie and Grampa have been such massive, integral parts of our lives we couldn't not do this small token of gratitude to them and others in similar circumstances.
SO, I have pledged to make £250, £10 per mile which I think to be an achievable goal. Those of you, like me, that didn't quite know the distance of 25 miles - it's the same as walking from Bath to Bristol and back again!
To any of you out there that can manage one morning without your large coffee and croissant on the way to work please put the £5 to a GREAT cause and donate to this page and the Alzheimers Society.
